For Educators

class_teacherWhen you were training to be a teacher, did you have any lectures on how to identify gifted and talented students? How to differentiate the curriculum to make it more relevant for your able students? How to decide whether some form of ability grouping , or one of the 18 different forms of acceleration, might be helpful for some of your students? Or are you part of the great majority of Australian teachers who received little, or none, of the wealth of information that is available to you and who aren’t sure of how and where to access it?

GERRIC provides professional development inservices or short courses to individual schools or groups of schools.
We can work with you to develop:

  • Half day inservice
  • PD day
  • Short course that will meet the needs of your particular school
  • Group session for staff which provides practical, research-supported advice and information on how to identify gifted and talented students, how to differentiate the curriculum, how to weigh to the pros and cons of different models of curriculum differentiation or different program structures
  • OR any other topic you would like us to focus on that is related to the education of able students

If you want more than an inservice, you may be ready for GERRIC’s Certificate of Gifted Education (COGE). COGE is a program designed to equip teachers and school administrators to respond to the academic and social needs of gifted and talented students. The Certificate trains educators in the skills needed to identify intellectually gifted students and to design appropriate curricula and programs. Running over three face-to-face sessions in the school vacations, or blended online course with one face-to-face session the program is led by Professor Miraca Gross and a team of experts in gifted education from Australia, the United States and Canada.

In 2012 there will be some exciting changes to COGE.

Miraca U.M. Gross, PhD AM
Director, GERRIC
