Junior Scientia

The next Junior Scientia program will be held on 7-8 July, 2008. Please see the Student Programs brochure for information specific workshops and application forms.

The Junior Scientia Program is designed for gifted and talented primary school students in Years 3-6. The program features a range of workshops in a number of fields taught over two days. The courses are developed and presented by teachers qualified in gifted education to encourage the interests and curiosity of gifted children. The level of difficulty in the courses is generally two years above the school level of the children, thus providing a rigourous and challenging program for gifted students.

Students may qualify for the Junior Scientia Challenge program by having:

  • Scored at or above the 95th percentile (I.Q. 125+) on an individual or group I.Q. test; or scored at or above the 95th percentile on a subscale (e.g. verbal or performance) of an individual I.Q. test;
  • Scored at or above the 95th percentile on a standardised test of achievement in any academic subject area;
  • Scored well within the top band on the Basic Skills Test;
  • Gained placement in a full time, self-contained class for academically gifted students (e.g. Opportunity Classes in NSW Schools);
  • Obtained an Academic Scholarship of some description;
  • Gained a Distinction or High Distinction in the Australian Schools Science or English Competitions, or the Australian Primary Mathematics Competition;
  • A letter from the school confirming that the student's academic potential in any/all subject areas is within the top 5% of the student population (a form for teacher's to complete is available from the Brochures & Forms page).

Program brochures and application forms are available from the Brochures & Forms page.
