EAA Competitions

Is the Talent Search the same as the Education Assessment Australia (EAA) competitions? Which should my gifted child sit?

The Talent Search is very different to the Educational Assessment Australia competitions as they both serve different purposes. However, gifted students will benefit from participation in both.

The Talent Search is a unique, Australia-wide program designed especially for gifted students. It employs off-level tests, which assess at a level high above each participant’s age pees, to give an opportunity to demonstrate the FULL extent of their ability.

It is important to give gifted students this opportunity so parents, teachers, and the student can know what they can do and how they need to be challenged.

The EAA tests are competitions designed to test students of all abilities at their own age level. The EAA conducts Australia’s largest national assessment program, the annual International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS).

Participation in ICAS provides students with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of their strengths and weaknesses, including their comparative performance within their school, state or country. As these tests assess students at their age-level, gifted students are likely to perform very well. ICAS identifies academic excellence and awards the highest achieving students with University of NSW medals and certificates.
